“That’s the movie I recommended to you.”
Gone Baby Gone | I Thought It Was a Mystery… But It Left Me Thinking About Justice
This review is written with as few spoilers as possible.
I Thought It Looked Interesting
Just like always, I started this movie with a simple thought.
“This looks interesting.”
The movie was Gone Baby Gone, released in 2007.
It’s usually described as a mystery thriller.
But after watching it, I can honestly say…
It wasn’t just a kidnapping mystery.
It was something much deeper.
Stories About Children Are Always Hard to Watch
The movie begins with the disappearance of a little girl.
A kidnapping.
Right from the beginning, my heart felt heavy.
I’ve always struggled with movies where children become victims.
Age doesn’t really matter.
But when it’s a young child, it somehow hurts even more.
Watching it wasn’t easy.
My Son’s Prediction
My son happened to be in the living room when I started the movie.
Only a few minutes in, he looked at the screen and said,
“Morgan Freeman… or maybe the aunt is the culprit.”
Then he casually went back to his room. Haha.
Come on…
Well…
To be honest, I wondered the same thing for a moment.
Everyone Looks Suspicious
As the story unfolded, I kept changing my mind.
“Maybe it’s this person.”
“No… maybe not.”
“What if it’s someone else?”
At some point, everyone looked suspicious.
I had no idea who to trust.
As a mystery, it was incredibly engaging.
Then Everything Changed
And then…
The ending.
Everything I thought I knew completely fell apart.
I actually whispered,
“What…?”
That’s when I realized something.
This wasn’t really a movie about finding the culprit.
It was a movie about something much bigger.
What Is Justice?
After the movie ended, I couldn’t stop thinking.
What is justice?
Was the main character right?
Or was the other person right?
Honestly…
I still don’t know.
If I were in that situation, I think I might have made a different choice.
Maybe there wasn’t a perfect answer.
Maybe there never was.
That’s exactly why this movie stayed with me.
It’s More Than a Kidnapping Story
The next day, I told my daughter and son about it.
My daughter said,
“That actually sounds really interesting.”
My son asked,
“Wait… wasn’t it just a kidnapping movie?”
Well…
Yes.
But not really.
It starts as a kidnapping story.
It ends as something completely different.
The Biggest Surprise
But the funniest surprise wasn’t even in the movie.
After it ended, I asked Ellie,
“Have you seen this before?”
He smiled and said,
“That’s the movie I recommended to you.”
…
Oh.
That’s right!!
It was the Ben Affleck movie he told me about!
I had completely forgotten.
I was sitting there thinking I’d discovered some hidden masterpiece all by myself. Haha.
My Final Thoughts
Gone Baby Gone isn’t just about solving a crime.
It’s a movie that quietly asks,
“What would you do?”
And it doesn’t let you forget that question.
I definitely want to watch it again.
Next time…
With Ellie.
I’m curious to hear what he thinks.
See you next time.
Before Silece.
