朝って、ただでさえテンションが低い。

頭はまだ半分寝ているし、体も動いていない。

そんな時間に事件は起きた。

その日、私は洗濯をしていた。

スマホは洗濯機の上。

いつもの場所だ。

私は洗面所で顔を洗っていた。

すると横目に見えた。

スマホが――

ゆっくり滑っていく。

「あーーーー！！」

反射だった。

手をバシッ！

まるで蚊でも叩くような勢いでスマホを止めた。

よし。

落ちなかった。

セーフ。

朝から心臓に悪いわーと思いながら、そのまま身支度を続けた。

その時は本気で助かったと思っていた。

でも、助かっていなかった。

あとからスマホを見ると、

左下に何かついている。

ゴミかな？

と思って触った。

……傷。

え？

と思ってよく見る。

ビリビリ。

さらに右側にもヒビ。

「割れてるやん！！」

思わず声が出た。

私はガラスの保護シート派だ。

今まで何回も貼り替えてきたけど、

割れたのは初めてだった。

うわー。

マジかー。

本体いってないよね？

お願い。

頼む。

生きてて。

まだ支払い残ってるんやから。笑

急いで電気屋さんへ向かった。

新しいガラスフィルムを買って帰る。

そして恐る恐る剥がした。

その頃にはヒビがかなり広がっていた。

「うわぁ……こんなになるんや」

って、ちょっと感心した。笑

いや、笑ってる場合じゃないんだけど。

なんか芸術作品みたいだった。

そして運命の瞬間。

保護シートを全部剥がす。

……。

傷なし。

本体。

無傷。

「保護シート様ぁぁぁーーー！！」

心の中で全力土下座した。笑

すごい。

本当にすごい。

完全に身代わりになってくれていた。

もし本体だったら、

たぶん私はスマホを買い替えていた。

そして泣いていた。

まだ支払い終わってないからね。笑

普段は、

「貼るの面倒やな」

とか、

「気泡入ったー！」

とか文句ばかり言っていた。

でも今日だけは言わせてほしい。

ガラス保護シート、偉大。

たった一枚で、

数万円のスマホを守ってくれる。

まさに影のヒーローである。

こんだけかーい！

と思うかもしれないけど、

今日は本当に驚いた話でした。笑

でもこういう小さな事件って、

意外と記憶に残る。

朝から心臓はバクバクだったし、

スマホにとっては命拾いの日だった。

皆さんもスマホ落下にはお気をつけて。

そして、

保護シートは貼ろう。

未来の自分が救われるかもしれない。笑

My Screen Protector Cracked

That Was a First

Mornings are hard enough already.

My brain is still half asleep, and my body hasn’t fully started working yet.

That’s exactly when the incident happened.

That morning, I was doing laundry.

My phone was sitting on top of the washing machine.

Just like always.

I was in the bathroom washing my face when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye.

My phone was…

slowly sliding.

“Noooooo!!”

It was pure reflex.

SMACK!

I slapped it with my hand like I was trying to kill a mosquito.

Success.

It didn’t fall.

Crisis averted.

At least, that’s what I thought.

I remember thinking,

“Wow, that got my heart racing.”

Then I went back to getting ready.

But I was wrong.

A little later, I picked up my phone and noticed something near the bottom left corner.

Dust?

Dirt?

I touched it.

A scratch.

Wait.

What?

I looked closer.

Cracks.

Then I found more on the right side.

“My screen is cracked!”

I couldn’t believe it.

I’ve always used tempered glass screen protectors.

I’ve replaced plenty of them over the years.

But I’d never actually broken one before.

Seriously?

Please don’t tell me the phone itself is damaged.

Come on.

Please survive.

I’m still making payments on this thing! 😂

I rushed to the electronics store.

Bought a new screen protector.

Came home.

And carefully started peeling off the old one.

By then, the cracks had spread even more.

“Wow…”

“I didn’t know it could crack like that.”

For a moment, I was actually impressed.

Not the right reaction, I know. 😂

But honestly, it looked like some kind of abstract artwork.

Then came the moment of truth.

I removed the protector completely.

…

No scratches.

The phone itself?

Perfect.

Not a single mark.

“ALL HAIL THE SCREEN PROTECTOR!”

I mentally bowed down in gratitude. 😂

Seriously.

That thing was amazing.

It completely sacrificed itself to protect my phone.

If the actual screen had cracked,

I probably would have ended up buying a new phone.

And crying.

Mostly crying.

Because, again…

I’m still paying for this one. 😂

Usually I’m the person complaining:

“Putting these on is annoying.”

“Great, another air bubble.”

But today, I have only one thing to say:

Screen protectors are heroes.

One thin piece of glass.

And it can save you hundreds of dollars.

That’s superhero-level work right there.

You might be thinking,

“That’s it?”

And yes.

That’s the whole story. 😂

But it genuinely shocked me.

Sometimes the little accidents are the ones that stick in your memory.

My heart was racing all morning.

And my phone got a second chance at life.

So please,

be careful with your phones.

And put on a screen protector.

Future You might be very grateful someday. 😂
